Autumn/Winter 2013 Shoe Preview

A/W Shoes are coming soon – and they are gorgeous!

Rich regal hues of red,  gold, green and blue, set off with crisp white – and a real return to the 18th Century with shape, the buckle is key. Block and embellished heels,  futuristic feel with metallics and perspex. Lots of  coloured snakeskin and skin tight knee boots. Luxurious, vintage, glam. Sheer panels and zips are making an impact too as well as comeback of the kitten or Midi heel – Middleton girls style – continuing the lady like trend.

Midi Magic……

There’s something ladylike in the air this Summer.  It could be the Middleton effect or a movement away from the club kids neon –  but we are all going girlie.  The coolest fashion piece out there right now is the modest demure Midi. Say bye bye to mini’s and might trip over them maxi’s – the hottest length is just below the knee. It’s all about the ankle …….so nude courts, t bars or  block heels are perfect- keep them simple to lengthen the leg. Go for ballet pumps if you are tall. Wear your midi high waisted with a crop top for a modern feel, with sleek vests for casual cool or sheer shirts for meet the parents perfect…….

Flower Power! Summer Hair Trend

Hair flowers are the hottest Summer accessory around. Whether you go for above the ear, headband, garland or full crown – indulge your inner girlie glam and wear yours with pride.

lanalana hair

Beyonce led the trend with one flower in her H & M Campaign earlier this year, Made in Chelsea’s Millie Mac looks adorable in her flower band and Kesha rocks a boho crown. Selena Gomez goes for double daisy, Khloe Kardashian does supercute garland at Kim’s Baby Shower and Alexa Chung shows us festival perfection. Lana Del Ray loves this look – working a few white flowers and flower crown – gorgeous!

I love hair flowers,  wearing one behind the ear and garlands in Ibiza. They channel carefree Summers – think dancing in fields and hot island paradises. The rule is –  the bigger the flowers, the smaller the earrings! Add chunky bangles and keep your dress simple.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked incredible yesterday as she presented the new Prince, Baby Cambridge to the world. Wearing a stunning Jenny Packham dress in this Summer’s chicest shade Cornflower Blue – Kate looked serene and radiant.

Royal

Perhaps a tribute to Diana – who 31 years ago wore a polka dot dress when William was born.

Beat the Heat! Summer Survival Guide

It’s HOT HOT HOT! On gorgeous  glorious sun filled days like these –  the best place to be is in the water! But for the city chicks who are busy being fabulous in town and can’t just dive in,  how do you keep your cool? Make up melting,  hot sticky and humid, take up residence next to the nearest fan and check out our top tips for chilling out……You may not be able to immerse yourself in the pool while you check your emails but you can Beat the Heat – The All Things Stylish Way………..

fan

1. Fan Time! Buy a hand fan –  or buy 10. They are inexpensive, pretty, feminine and can accessorise your outfit. They really work!!! Your friends will all want one. You can buy them so cheaply in Chinatown and you will wonder how you lived without them. I also pick them up in Spain whenever I’m there but Chinatown has an abundance and they are beautifully designed. They have plain ones too for the guys in our life although when its this hot, they don’t care! Paper, wood, silk, cloth – all work and are perfect to keep you cool on the tube, in a taxi and in a bar…..

2.  Heat proof your make up!  Choose a long lasting transfer proof foundation and keep it in the fridge. YSL Teint Resist  – £29.50  –  is brilliant and has great coverage.   It will feel cool going on, last and last.

teint

Buy waterproof eye shadow and liner – MAC has the best and they are made for swimming – so London heat won’t defeat it. Powerpoint Pencils £14 and Paintpot in Chilled on Ice –  a cool Shimmer Gold – £15 –  always looks good.

macmac_chilledonice001

Sticky gloss in the heat is not a good look. Clean up with a cool lip stain that gives you a whisper of colour – Benefit’s Benetint is still the best – £22.  Chanel Powder Papers – £22 are ideal for on the go chic blotting.

benetintblot

3. Cool the skin! Apply a cooling body lotion throughout the day, whenever you feel like you are at boiling point.  Aloe Vera kept in the fridge is ideal for sunburn – as its instantly cools and calms – so our overheated city skin can benefit from the same treatment. It will feel wonderful in the baking heat.

Aloe Vera Gel – £4.66 – Hawthorne Health
gel

4. Spray Away!  Invest in one of the ice skin sprays.I discovered them in a hot studio where the tv hosts were surviving with spritzes in between takes. It works!

Perlier Lemon Sorbet Refreshing Ice Granita – feels and smells amazing, actually ‘crackling’ on your skin and instantly cooling you down. Buy at the Home Shopping Network – www.hsn.com. or head to Boots NOW  for their brilliant Hot Weather Cooling Spray and keep it in the fridge.

icecool

5. Wear Cotton! Its a natural fibre that’s breathable and a whole lot cooler than man made fabrics. Feels great on the skin too.

6. Pop it!  Ice lollies are ideal for cooling you down when the temperatures soars. Buy a box of ice pops and stick them in the freezer at work and home. I had about 4 this afternoon and felt instantly cooler.

7. Dip it! Cooling your hands, feet, temples, wrists and neck – makes a massive instant difference. Pop to the bathroom and run a cold sink and dip them in!

8. Ice up! Buy a eye cooler mask and stick in the freezer. Place on face during breaks at work. Everyone is in the same boat – they will all want to borrow! Relaxing Gel Mask from Out of the Blue – on Amazon – £2.38 – bargain! Also eases headaches and helps puffy eyes – fantastic!

9. Take a trip….to the ice bar! Where else in London is icy cool at this time of year? Suggest meetings  take place at The Ice Bar…

ice bar 2

ice bar 3– http://www.belowzerolondon.com/ £14- £16 per person which includes a free iced vodka. After work drinks anyone?

Other top tips……Buy an Electric Fan and keep it by the bed at home. I turn mine on as soon as I get in and close the curtains. Splash cold water on your face and lie next to the fan, it makes a big difference. Keep a flannel in the freezer and fridge and apply to pressure points. Sleep in cotton sheets……

Walking in Heels – Be Fabulous!

It’s Summer and the perfect time to showcase tanned feet in stunning shoes……but all too often this is the time we are in the most pain! Hot weather, platforms and strappy numbers – not to mention pumps and flip-flops (who knew they could cause damage?)  can take their toll, so by the time the Summer is in full swing – our feet hurt. We want to be gorgeous and comfortable – so what do we do?

shoeshoe 2shoe 3shoes 4

When my invitation to Walking in Heels arrived  – Carnation Footcare’s event –   I thought it was the perfect opportunity to find out. Afternoon tea at the gorgeous  Goring Hotel with tips from stylists, podiatrists and the ultimate  etiquette expert. Plus a sneak peak at next seasons shoe trends – wonderful!

goring

I love The Goring. Elegant and glamorous, Kate Middleton’s pre wedding choice was the perfect venue and afternoon tea was delicious.  In the light and airy room, we heard from the brilliant Liz Brewer – ultimate deportment and etiquette expert – known for her books,  tv shows and also work with the Royal Family. We had the Liz Brewer masterclass – how to walk in heels and look amazing. A great tip was to feel the top of the stairs with your toes  – when you are walking up a long staircase – to avoid having to look down. Make your entrance in style – and safety! You wont fall if you can feel the step in front . Be confident.  Its all about posture!

liz

Liz and I had a chat after over a chic cup of tea and talked about some of her tv work. This is woman who has literally transformed hundreds of girls into ladies – she knows her stuff! After a long day in glam heels, soak your feet in hot water with salt – this really helps to reduce swelling and can instantly make a difference.

high life

The high heel…….nothing can instantly make you feel sexier, make you look slimmer and be altogether more glamorous! But after a long day rushing around –  I know my feet are aching. The podiatrists from Carnation Footcare were amazing. They told us all about why our feet hurt in heels, the results were scary – so many women cram their poor feet into too tight shoes which affects posture and causes damage. Find the right fit, choose quality over quantity and give your feet a break! Take your shoes off when you can. Using products can really make a difference – they suggested gel pads, a cool rollerball and amazing creams….

Looking after your feet is so important – so for busy girls on the go, here are our top tips…..

1. Scrub

Use a foot scrub – slough off dead skin and freshen feet. Feels great too. Peppermint Foot Scrub smells gorgeous and is still a big Body Shop seller – with good reason! £7

feetfeet 2feet 3feet 4

2. File

A foot file is a must. Space NK have a brilliant file that works- and lasts  and lasts….£18

2. Moisturise

Use a daily foot lotion that keeps skin in good condition. I like L’Occtiane’s incredible Shea Butter cream – softens and soothes. Wonderful. £19.

3. Heal

Have a healing foot cream to hand.  Continued use of flip-flops causes pressure on the heels and that’s when you get cracks and it can seriously hurt!  Carnation Cracked Heel Cream –  £2.99 – gets to the problem fast. Use when needed and then a few times a week.

4. Prevent

Keep Carnation’s Anti Blister Stick – £4.08 – in your handbag. You apply to an area that’s sore before the skin breaks and its brilliant! Forming a protective layer over your skin and stopping the blister forming. Cute glitter packaging too.

carnation_anti_blister_stick

5. Protect

Shoeliners and toeliners help to stop your shoes rubbing on your feet. Get them at http://www.sockshop.co.uk/by_type/tights-legwear/shoeliners/

6. Ease Pain

Gel Pads, Spots and Strips  are brilliant. Tiptoes Invisible Gel Cushions save your feet from the burning pain of platforms. Get the goodies online – http://www.carnationfootcare.co.uk/

tipspotssteipcarnation_pediroller

6. Massage

Keep a special rollerball in the fridge at work – the Pediroller from Carnation and roll tired feet over it during the day!

7. Polish

I think a classic pink toe polish works all year round and flatters all skintones. I like Indi-a Mood for Love –  OPI
